Clifford Hansen

Clifford Peter Hansen ( born October 16, 1912 in Zenith, Lincoln County, Wyoming, † 20 October 2009 in Jackson, Wyoming ) was an American politician of the Republican Party. He was from 1963 to 1967 Governor of Wyoming from 1967 to 1978 and U.S. senator.

Biography

Hansen, who came from a family that settled as settlers and ranchers in Jackson Hole, graduated after attending public schools in Jackson a degree in Agricultural Science at the University of Wyoming, where he graduated in 1934 with a Bachelor of graduation. Later, he was from 1946 to 1966 first as a member and then from 1955 to 1962 and Chairman of the Board (Board of Trustees ) of the University of Wyoming. In addition, he was a rancher functionary in the ranchers association of Wyoming, the National Cattle Breeders Association and the livestock research and marketing advisory committee.

In 1937, he began his political career with his election to the Senate from Wyoming, before a commission of Columbia Interstate (Columbia Interstate Commissioner) and Snake River ( Snake River Commissioner) was later and as such signatories of the Snake River Compact of 10 October 1949 by the damming of the river, it was decided to produce energy. From 1943 to 1951 he was also a County Commissioner in Teton County.

After his election as Governor of the State of Wyoming, he was on January 7, 1963 to January 2, 1967 at the office. His daughter Mary Hansen Mead ran unsuccessfully in 1990 against the popular Democratic Governor Mike Sullivan; She died in 1996 in a riding accident. Her son Matt Mead, Hansen's grandson, won the gubernatorial elections in Wyoming in November 2010.
