Coat of arms of Spain
The coat of arms of Spain (Spanish Escudo de España) is valid as a national emblem since 1981.
Description
The blazon of the coat of arms of Spain is regulated by October 5, 1981 in Art 1o Ley 33/1981:
- The coat of arms of the Spanish king and state coat of arms shows the traditional ingredients of the Kingdom Spain. The heart sign showing the reigning House of Bourbon -Anjou
- All around the arms of the historical kingdoms are arranged, from which Spain has emerged.
- They are ( beyond that, further still) by a red banner with the Latin motto Plus Ultra connected, this was the motto under which Spain conquered an empire and witnessed the height of its power (see also: non plus ultra)
- The columns are surmounted by the imperial crown and the crown of Spain.

Historical forms
Until 1981 St. John's eagle was the plate holder, he can be found as early as the 5th century. From the Habsburg period ( Charles I / V ) to the 19th century (Joseph Bonaparte ) is the sign hanging around his neck with the Order of the Golden Fleece.
