Cúcuta

Cucuta (San José de Cúcuta ) is the sixth largest city of Colombia and capital of the province of Norte de Santander. The city is located in the northeast of the country on the border with Venezuela.

Location

Cúcuta is located at about 320 meters above sea level and is 600 kilometers from Bogota and about 550 kilometers from Caracas in Venezuela. The city has an average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius. It is drained by the Río Pamplonita which opens in Puerto Santander in the Río Zulia. At the eastern edge of town, on the border with Venezuela, the Río Táchira, which flows in the North East of the city in the Río Pamplonita runs.

The eastern neighbor in Venezuela is Ureña. To the southeast lies, also in Venezuela, the San San Antonio, which together with Cucuta a small " free zone "; that is, that the inhabitants of both countries can move in both cities. History

Cúcuta was founded in 1733. Simón Bolívar in 1813 conquered the city of Cúcuta and sat here the march on Caracas continued. In the Rosary Church of Cucuta in 1821 convened the Constituent Congress of Gran Colombia.

On 18 May 1875, the city was largely destroyed by an earthquake, but was rebuilt relatively quickly. Cucuta in 1888 was connected to the railway network.
