Eichberg is a municipality with 1188 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the north- east of Styria. The community has about 1,300 inhabitants and is part of the Judicial District Fürstenfeld and in the political district of Hartberg - Fürstenfeld.

Geography

Geographical Location

Eichberg is about eleven kilometers north of the district capital Hartberg near the border with Burgenland. The municipality is located in Joglland at the transition from the hills of Eastern Styria to the edge of the mountains east of the Mur. Eichberg crossed by Kleinlungitzbach which opens later than Lungitzbach at Wörterberg in the Lafnitz. The northern boundary of the municipality is the Voraubach, in the north- east, the municipality is limited by the Lafnitz, while the south is drained by the collector stream.

Structures

The Aichberg Castle is part of the Eastern Styrian Castle Road. It was founded in the 11th or 12th century, when after the wars with Hungary Lafnitz was fixed as the boundary between the Holy Roman Empire and Hungary, and thus served to strengthen this limit. It was first mentioned in 1250. 1953, the castle owned by the community. Since 1986 it has returned to private ownership.

Traffic

Eichberg is off the main roads. The change road B to Wiener Neustadt and Hartberg is about 4 km away and reachable in the neighboring municipality Rohrbach an der Lafnitz 54. The South A 2 motorway to Vienna and Graz is about 15 km away and the junction Friedberg - Pinggau (95 ) can be achieved.

In the municipality of Eichberg closest train station Rohrbach- Vorau the Spa track. It offers two hourly regional train connections to Vienna and Hartberg.

Graz Airport and Flughafen Wien -Schwechat are both approximately 100 km away.

The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 November 1988. Blazon (Coat of Arms description): " From black and silver semi- split and shared by Red; red on the cuts in the trefoil oak leaves, in the upper left box, silver in the other fields. "
