The market town Pinggau with 3102 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) is located in eastern Styria ( Austria ) in the judicial district Fürstenfeld and in the political district of Hartberg - Fürstenfeld at the foot of the bill.

Geography

Geographical Location

Pinggau is located about 20 km north of the district capital of Hartberg in the northeast of the district. The municipality is crossed by the Pinka River, a tributary of the Raab. The Pinka rises in the extreme northwest of the municipality, which is drained by numerous tributaries.

Pinggau is bounded on the north by the change and has there with the low exchange ( 1,669 m), the Irrbühel ( 1,423 m), the Windhag ( 1,395 m ) and the high mountain ( 1,314 m), its highest elevations. To the east, the municipality falls to Pinka out. Pinggau has grown together with its neighboring city of Friedberg.

History

An early tollbooth proves that Pinggau is an old road junction. Nevertheless Pinggau and his church were first mentioned only in 1377.

The territory included already in the community formation in 1849, the current size of Schaueregg in the north to Sinnersdorf at the former Hungarian kingdom border in the south. An exception is the cadastral Sparberegg that came with January 1, 1969 by Schäffern to Pinggau.

The Marktmusikkapelle Pinggau was founded on 28 August 1932. The highlight of the musical year is the spring concert, musical home the club is opened in summer 2009 " House of Music ".

Sports

Parish Pinggau - pilgrimage Maria hazel

The church was named after a legend: shepherds said to have been found in a hazel an der Pinka a picture of Mary.
