Vorau

Vorau with 1367 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) is a market town in Styria ( Austria ). From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the communities Puchegg, Riegersberg, Schachen at Vorau Vornholz, the new community will continue to use the name " Vorau ". Vorau is known by the Augustinian Canons Vorau with its famous for its ancient manuscripts library.

History

Documented Vorau is mentioned in 1149 for the first time. 1163 it is founded in the pen Vorau by Margrave Ottokar III. , Which is crucial for the further development of the town.
