Sonnhofen

Sonnhofen with 1033 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) is a municipality in eastern Styria in the judicial district Fürstenfeld and in the political district of Hartberg - Fürstenfeld.

Geography

Geographical Location

Sonnhofen located in the north of the nature reserve Pöllauer valley about 15 km north-west of the district capital Hartberg and about 35 km northeast of the provincial capital of Graz. The municipality belongs to the Joglland, which forms a part of the Edge Mountains east of the Mur. The municipality is drained by numerous tributaries of the Pöllauer Untersafen, the most important of Prätisbach the east and the Köppelreith Bach in the west of the church.

Since Sonnhofen is located in widely branched valley, the town is surrounded to the north by numerous peaks. The highest are here (clockwise from west to east) the wolf pit ( 966 m), the Wachholz (1030 m), the Filzmoosberg ( 1085 m) and the Hintereck ( 1081 m), which is accessible by ski lifts. In the south of Sternbauer mountain ( 707 m) stands out.

The community Sonnhofen consists of two cadastral (KG) together or the same localities. The KG Köppelreith (413 inhabitants) forms the western part of the municipality, the KG Prätis ( 623 inhabitants), the eastern part. As of October 31, 2011

Mayor

Gottfried doctor (ÖVP ) remained after the last municipal election in 2005, despite great vocal losses his party mayor. Since spring 2008, is the new mayor Franz Kernbichler (ÖVP ).

Coat of arms

Coat Description: " A sign of blue and red in the sign divided by a golden sun rays, these surmounted by three golden Nußblättern. " The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 25 June 1999.

Regional Policy

Sonnhofen is a member of the Association of Municipalities Pöllauer valley, and with this in LEADER Oststeirisches region heartland. December 7, 2010 was Pöllauer valley constituted as Regionext small region. At the municipal structural reform 2010-2015 Sonnhofen will probably merge with all four other municipalities in the micro-region.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Sonnhofen is off the major roads on the Schloffereckstraße L 406, which connects with the Pöllau Vorauerstraße L 405, which in turn leads of Vorau after Birkfeld. Here the Weiz road B 72 is reached. From the highways Sonnhofen is relatively far away, to the nearest connection point Hartberg ( 115) of the South A 2 motorway is about 25 km.

In Sonnhofen and surroundings there is no train station.

Graz Airport is about 80 km away.

Culture and sights

Museums

The Ethnographic Museum Sonnhofen offers a glimpse into " grandma's ". It was founded in 1990 by retired haulage firm Johann Krogger in the garages are no longer needed and includes many historical and ethnographic objects that Krogger has collected over the past 40 years.

Sports

The community Sonnhofen has a football and a tennis court. Also, here is one of the most modern bowling facilities in Styria.
