Flag of French Polynesia
The flag of French Polynesia was adopted by the Parliament of French Polynesia on 23 November 1984.
Description and significance
On the flag are located up and down two narrow red bands, the middle section is a wider white band with the coat of arms of French Polynesia. On the emblem is the sun, the sea and a native canoe with five figures. The figures represent the various archipelagos of the archipelago Represents the aspect ratio is 2:3.
Legal Status of the flag
On 4 December 1985, the territorial government ruled by decree, that the flag of French Polynesia may be placed beside the flag of France and the regional flags. According to the 1996 Act it must be shown only in conjunction with the flag of France. Ships that are registered in French Polynesia have to put the flag of France.
