Imathia

Imathia (Greek Periferiaki Enotita Imathias ) is one of seven regional districts of the Greek region Central Macedonia with its capital Veria. Until the administrative reform of 2010 Imathia had the status of a prefecture, since their skills are in the region of Central Macedonia and reduced by merging three municipalities. The Regional District Imathia sends five deputies to the zentralmakedonischen Regional Council, has also but no political significance.

History

The area of Imathia was at the center of the ancient Macedonian culture. Even in prehistoric times, the area was inhabited by men and experienced during the reign of Macedonia heyday. In Imathia you meet on the trail of a culture whose presence from Antiquity through Byzantium extends to the Christian era. The place was Vergina to 410 BC, the capital of the kingdom of Macedonia. Here was also the sechzehnstrahlige Star of Vergina, a sun symbol found. This was the emblem of the Macedonian royal dynasty at the time of Philip II and Alexander the Great.
