James Moore Wayne

James Moore Wayne (* 1790 in Savannah, Georgia, † July 5, 1867 in Washington, DC) was an American lawyer and judge of the Supreme Court for the state of Georgia, he was also a deputy in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 1808 he earned a degree at Princeton College. After studying law in New Haven (Connecticut) and admission to the Bar in 1810, he practiced law in Savannah. During the British - American War he served in the military. Then Wayne was from 1815 to 1816 deputy in the House of Representatives from Georgia, as well as of 8 September 1817 to July 12, 1819 for mayor of Savannah.

In the following years he worked as a judge in Georgia until he was elected as a Democrat to Congress on March 4, 1829 where he became the successor of George Rockingham Gilmer. On January 13, 1835, he resigned this mandate, to accept his appointment as a judge of the Supreme Court by President Andrew Jackson can; he followed the late William Johnson. Of 14 January 1835 until his death on 5 July 1867, he worked as an Associate Justice.

James Wayne was buried in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah.
