Karen Harup

Karen Margrethe Harup ( born November 20, 1924 in Skovshoved, Gentofte, † July 19, 2009 in Copenhagen) was a Danish swimmer.

It belonged to after the Second World War to the best European swimmers and was at the European Championships 1947 European champion over 100 m backstroke, 400 m freestyle and the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. At the 1948 Olympic Games in London, she was Olympic champion over 100m backstroke and won silver in the 400m freestyle and the 4 × 100 m Danish freestyle relay.

After these games, she ended her career and was a swimming instructor. In 1975, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
