Liézey

Liézey is a commune with 280 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vosges of Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges, Gerardmer to Canton and the Local Government Association, founded in 2003 Lacs et Rupts skin.

Geography

The community Liézey lies in the Vosges, about eight kilometers west of the city Gerardmer.

The 13.27 km ² large municipality of Liézey extends over the catchment areas of the eponymous mountain stream ( Ruisseau de Liézey ) which flows through the Cleurie into the Moselle. The lying to the west of the municipality of the district of La Racine, however, lies in the headwaters of Barba, a left tributary of the Vologne. Church and Town Hall ( Mairie ) form the core of the scattered settlement Liézey. The spa located at 750 meters above sea level is the highest town hall of the department of Vosges. The Liézeytal the flanking elevations reach 825 m in the west, in the extreme southeast maximum of 923 meters above the sea.

More than half of the municipal area is covered by coniferous forests. These are shares in the large contiguous forests Domaniale Forêt de Vologne in the north and Forêt de Rounimont in the southeast of the community. The altitude of the valley areas of more than 600 meters can hardly be economic crops, therefore dominant in the valley and on the lower slopes pastures. Also be found in the higher elevations, a few mountain farms.

Neighboring communities of Liézey are Granges -sur- Vologne in the north, east and south Gerardmer, La Bresse to the west and Rehaupal and Champdray in the northwest.

History

The church of Saint -Nicolas is one of the few churches in France that were built during the French Revolution. Its construction was completed in 1795 under the population decisive participation. The church and the construction of the school building in 1820 (now the Town Hall) in 1836 enabled the establishment of independent community Liézey from parts of the municipalities of Gerardmer, Rehaupal, La Bresse and Granges -sur- Vologne.

The inhabitants call themselves Liézeys Pouhas, which is due in the area on the tradition of attracting poix ( pitch ) from the resin of the dense beech and birch forests.

Demographics

At the population figures shows that Liézey in the second half of the 20th century on Not far from the expansion of tourism Gerardmer benefited, emerged as numerous guest houses and holiday homes in the community.

Economy and infrastructure

Liézey is now a tourist town with numerous guest houses and holiday homes. This development owes the community of the location close to the waterfalls of Tendon and the Lac de Gerardmer and convenient transport links to the city Gerardmer. In mountain farms dairy farming and cheese making is operated.

Traffic

Liézey is two kilometers away from the Vosges department traversing road 417 ( Remiremont Gerardmer Colmar). Furthermore, there are road links to the northern neighboring communities Rehaupal, Champdray and Granges -sur- Vologne. The nearest railway station is 20 kilometers away city Remiremont.
