List of Portuguese consorts

Portugal had during the existence of the Portuguese monarchy (1143-1910) only two female monarchs, Mary I and Mary II, who ruled as queens in their own right over the land ( so like today, for example, the British Queen Elizabeth II or the Queen of the Netherlands, Beatrix).

All other listed on the list below queens wore this item as a wife, not as sovereign in its own right (ie, comparable to today queens Silvia of Sweden and Sophia of Spain). But they had over their husbands part significant impact on the Portuguese policy. Some also ruled for a long time as regents, as during the minority of her sons.
