Matot

Mattot (Hebrew " tribes " ) refers to a reading section of the Torah with the text Numbers / Bemidbar 30.2 to 32.42.

This is the reading of the third or fourth Sabbath of the month of Tammuz or, if connected to Mass'e, also the first Sabbath of the month Aw.

Gist

  • The text deals with the observance of vows and oaths and their possible removal by the father or husband of a woman.
  • Battle against the Midianites, as they had deceived the people of Israel to counsel of Balaam, to the service of Baal Peor.
  • Cleaning of the warriors and the devices that are contaminated by a corpse and distribution of prey.
  • The tribes of Reuben and Gad ask of Moses the conquered land of the kings of the Amorites, and Og Sihon and promise that their war -bodied men to go with the other tribes across the Jordan.
