Michèle Alliot-Marie

Michèle Jeanne Honorine Alliot -Marie ( born September 10, 1946 in Villeneuve -le- Roi, Seine- et- Oise, today the department of Val- de -Marne ) is a French politician and was dated 14 November 2010 until February 27, 2011 in the government of François Fillon Foreign Minister. She was the first woman to hold this office.

Political career

She holds a doctorate in law and a diploma in social anthropology. In 1986, she was elected to the French National Assembly and represents since the 6th constituency of the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques.

In the government of Jacques Chirac, she was Minister of Education from 1986 to 1988. From 1989 to 1992 she was a Member of the European Parliament. In the government of Édouard Balladur ( 1993-1995 ), she led the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

From 1999 to 2002 she was president of the RPR party. From 2002 to 2007 she headed the Department of Defense, first in the government of Jean -Pierre Raffarin and from 2005 under his successor, Dominique de Villepin.

End of December 2006 announced Alliot- Marie, not wanting to compete for the UMP as a candidate for the 2007 presidential election.
