Miramar is a city in Broward County in the U.S. state of Florida with 128 729 inhabitants ( 2012). The metropolitan area has a size of 80.3 km ².

Geography

Miramar is located about 15 km north- west of Miami and 15 miles south-west of Fort Lauderdale. The city borders on the municipalities Pembroke Pines, Hollywood and West Park. In the south the city borders Miami Gardens (Miami- Dade County) and to the west by the Everglades.

History

Miramar was founded on 26 May 1955. At this time lived in the area less than 200 people to 7.5 km ².

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 122 041 inhabitants spread over 40 294 households. The population density was 1597.4 inh. / Km ². 41.0 % of the population were white, 45.7 % African American, 0.2% Native American and 5.2% Asian Americans. 4.1% were members of other ethnic groups and 3.7% in different ethnic groups. 36.9 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 17.4 % of all households lived in 52.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 82.1 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.26 persons and the average family size is 3.56 people.

32.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.5% were 20-39 years old, 28.8 % were 40-59 years old and 10.6 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 34 years. 47.2 % of the population were male and 52.8 % female.

The average annual income was $ 64,767, while 8.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 60.09 % of the population spoke Spanish 29.99% and 9.11% had a different mother tongue.

Policy

The city government operates according to the City Manager - City Council principle. The city manager is employed by the City Commission as the administrative head of the city administration. He is also tasked to advise the City Commission on policy issues. He is in charge responsible for the daily tasks of city administration and with enforcing the policy adopted by the City Council. The council itself is elected in free elections by the people Miramar. It consists of four men and a chairperson. Its task is to determine the target direction of urban policy in the context of the available budget and to adopt ordinances and resolutions.

Train

Miramar has numerous schools. In addition to the Elementary Schools Coconut Palm, Fairway, Miramar, Annabel C. Perry, Sea Castle, Silver Lakes, Silver Shores, Sunset Lakes, Sunshine still exist two so-called Middle Schools, namely New Renaissance Middle School and Henry D. Perry Middle School. Moreover, Miramar still has two high schools, the Everglades High School Miramar High School and hot.

In Miramar there are 10 different churches from 6 different denominations. Among the belonging to a denomination churches the parish Church of God is most strongly represented at two churches. Furthermore, there are 2 no denomination belonging churches ( as of 2004).

Traffic

The city is crossed by Interstate 75, from the Homestead Extension of Florida 's Turnpike, as well as the Florida State Roads 817, 823 and 858. The nearest national airport is the North Perry Airport, the nearest international airports are the Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood International Airport and Miami International Airport.
