Morgex

Morgex (about 923 meters above sea level ) is a village in the Italian Alps, Val d'Aosta region. It has 2 084 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) and an area of 43 km ². Morgex lies on the left bank of the Dora Baltea. The inhabitants are called Morgeassins (French ) or Mordzaheun ( patois ).

The neighboring municipalities are Courmayeur, La Salle, La Thuile and Pré -Saint -Didier. The municipality consists of the villages Arpy, Biolley, Dailley, Fosseret, La Ruine, Lavancher, Marais, Montet, Pautex, Ruillard, Tirivel and Villair.

Morgex is the capital of Valdigne, the upper part of the Aosta Valley. At the time of the Roman occupation was the name of the hamlet Morgentia or Morgentium.

In vineyards above the village wächsen the vines for the Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle, a fresh and dry white wine.

During the Fascist period the place was called Valdigna d' Aosta.
