Chambave

Chambave is a municipality with 936 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the region of Aosta Valley, Italy. The municipality is situated approximately 18 km east of the city of Aosta. Chambave lies on the left bank of the Dora Baltea. The municipality lies at an altitude of 480 m slm and has an area of 21 km ². The highest point of the municipality is the Mont Avic with a height of 30.010 m slm.

Chambave consists of the districts Arlier, Cesséyaz, Cham plan Chandianaz, Clapey, Croux, Fosses, Goillaz, Grenellaz, Guichet, Jovençanaz, Meyaz, Margnier, Montcharey, Ollières, Parléaz, Perret, Pilliolet, Plantaz, Poyaz, Praz, Promassaz, Protorgnet, Ronchère, Septumian, Tercy, Thuy, Vallery and Verthuy.

The neighboring municipalities are Champdepraz, Fénis, Pontey, Saint- Denis and Verrayes.

The patron saint is San Lorenzo whose feast is celebrated on April 7.

Chambave is one of the most important wine-growing villages of the Val d'Aosta (→ Viticulture in Italy) and is famous for its muscatel wines.

During the Fascist period, the village was the Italianate name Ciambava.
