Geography

Neuburg adKammel lies in the Danube-Iller region Kammel in Bavarian Swabia.

There are the following districts: Langenhaslach with Naichen, Edelstetten with Marbach, Neuburg adKammel, Wattenweiler.

Villages in the municipality are Neuburg an der Kammel Wattenweiler, Hoesel Hurst, Halbertshofen, Erisweiler, Langenhaslach, Naichen, Edelstetten and Marbach. Neuburg, Halbertshofen and Erisweiler are in Kammeltal, Marbach and Edelstetten in the valley of Haselbach. Langenhaslach is in the area where the Haselbach passes into the Kammeltal and Naichen lies at the mouth of Haselbach in the Kammel. Hosel Hurst and Wattenweiler are in Günztal.

History

Neuburg is first mentioned in 1209. The rule of Neuburg an der Kammel belonged to the Austrian front Margraviate of Burgau. The feud passed to the following noble families: White Horn Neuffen (1209-1347), Ellerbach (1348-1458), Rechenberg to Hohenrechberg (1460-1524) and Vöhlin v. Frick Stockhausen (1524-1816); In 1347 Neuburg was awarded city rights in the 15th century, however, it has fallen back to the market. Emperor Frederick III. awarded in 1491 at the request of Ulrich von Rechenberg to Hohenrechberg the market crest.
