History

The earliest known documented mention of the village of Neukirchen dated 1301; 1377 the municipality of the market rights were granted by Duke Albrecht of Bavaria. Neukirchen was Pflegamt and belonged to the Electorate of Bavaria Straubing Rentamt. Neukirchen had a market court magistrate own rights. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

The village Walching, formerly located outside Neukirchen, has already been incorporated in the 1950s; it is separated from Neukirchen by a hill, which was formerly called the " shambles " because there was held the allwöchentliche Schlachtermarkt. Sanctuary

The history of the pilgrimage in Neukirchen has its origin in a host pilgrimage. The legend is given as the time to do this the beginning of the 15th century. At this time a chapel was erected in front of the place. A Hussite attempted here around 1420 to destroy a statue of Mary with a stroke of his sword, which brought a peasant woman from the Bohemian village Loučim from the local church here in safety. Nicholas Church ( Market Church )

It was built in the first half of the 13th century. Thus the Ursiedlung received Walching ( Lower Market) the name of Neukirchen. The construction of the church and the Upper Market was born. In the 14th century began with the construction of fortifications. Due to constant disputes between Bavaria and Bohemia as was a fortified castle church. In 1614 the church tower collapsed and was not rebuilt. Today's market tower was built around 1370 and already had battlements around it to use as a fortification. In the 17th century, he received a dome structure and the bells of the collapsed steeple were housed there.

The nursing castle was integrated with the market survey in 1377 in the fortified church. Here care officials of the state administration were housed. The electoral nurse ended in 1764 the service. In the following years, the market for the sale of the castle around it tried to accommodate the school. 1803 then saw the acquisition and renovation.

When in 1906 the school moved to the newly built school house, took the Santa eV, the former nursing castle, where he built a nurses' home (St. Nicholas home ). The nuns of the Franciscan Sisters Dillinger operated a kindergarten, a school work, outpatient nursing and later took on even orphans.

After the closure of the home in 1984 and the renovation of the building, the Pilgrimage Museum was opened in 1992 in the castle maintenance. During the renovation of the church and the castle fortifications were found behind the castle remains.

Franciscan convent ( monastery church )

At the beginning of the 17th century helped regularly Franciscan Fathers from Cham to care for the large number of pilgrims.
