Novi Grad, Sarajevo

Novi Grad ( "New Town" ) is the westernmost and largest with nearly 125,000 inhabitants municipality ( Općina ) in the urban area of ​​the Bosnian capital Sarajevo. She was separated on 12 April 1978 by the former municipality of Novo Sarajevo and mainly consists of prefabricated buildings of the 1970s and 1980s along the Miljacka and housing estates with smaller houses on the mountain slopes in the north and south. Novi Grad borders the municipalities Ilijaš and Vogošća in the north, Novo Sarajevo in the east, Novo Sarajevo Istocno the southeast and Ilidža in the West.

On the territory of the municipality of Novi Grad there is an extensive industrial and railway facilities, but also prestigious business centers such as the Bosmal City Center. Among the religious centers of the new Istiklal mosque belongs in the Miljacka loop in Otoka. The two largest residential areas are Alipašino polje and Dobrinja near the airport. The latter in particular was in the Bosnian war directly on the front line and suffered heavy damage. Here today runs the innerbosnische entities border with Republika Srpska.

The main part of the municipality lies at about 500 m height in flat Sarajevo Polje, while the mountain Žuč with 850 meters the highest point.
