Olexiy Lukashevych

Oleksiy Lukaschewytsch (Ukrainian Олексій Лукашевич, English transcription Oleksiy Lukashevych, . Born January 11, 1977 in Dnipropetrovsk ) is a Ukrainian long jumper, who was both indoors as well as outdoors European champions.

At the Junior World Championships in 1996 Lukaschewytsch won with 7.91 m gold. The following year he was third in the U23 European Championships with a wind- aided 8.09 m. In the Indoor Athletics Championships 1998 in Valencia, he won with 8.06 meters and one centimeter ahead of the Portuguese Carlos Calado. In 1999 he won at the Universiade with 8,16 m.

With 8.02 meters, he finished fourth at the European Indoor Championships in 2000 in Ghent. After Lukaschewytsch until then had not survived in the major championships in the open air the qualification, he succeeded in 2000, the collection in Sydney at the Olympic Games finals. With 8.26 meters, it came down to an inch of his personal best approach, he reached number four and had his countryman Roman Schtschurenko in third place just two inches behind.

His only World Cup finals reached Lukaschewytsch at the IAAF 2001 World Championships in Edmonton. With 8.10 meters, he was sixth in eleven centimeters behind Carlos Calado, who won bronze. In Vienna in 2002, he stood for the third consecutive time in the final at European Indoor Championships. With 8,11 m, he finished in fourth place again, gold was won by Spaniard Raúl Fernández 8.22 m. In Munich at the European Athletics Championships in 2002, the athletes were suffering from cold, wet weather. Only two jumpers exceeded the eight- meter mark, Lukaschewytsch won with 8.08 m with eight centimeters ahead of the Croats Siniša Ergotić.

Then Lukaschewytsch only succeeded at the European Championships 2006 in Gothenburg again the entry into a grand finale. With 8,12 m he had in third eight inches behind the Italian European champion Andrew Howe.

Oleksiy Lukaschewytsch is 1,75 m tall and weighs 72 kg.
