Pareto, Piedmont

Pareto ( Piedmontese and Ligurian Parèj ) is a municipality with 567 (as of 31 December 2012) a population of Alessandria, Piedmont in the Italian province. The neighboring municipalities are Cartosio, Giusvalla ( SV), Malvicino, Mioglia ( SV), Ponzone, Sassello (SV) and Spigno Monferrato.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 476 m above sea level on a ridge between the valleys of the Erro and Bormida on an old trade route between the Mediterranean Sea and the Po Valley. The municipality covers an area of 40.9 km ².

History

The town was founded in the year 991, together with the Abbey of San Quintino. From 1125 he was under the rule of the princes of Savona. In the period following the rule of Genoa, Alessandria and Montferrat changes until the region fell to the Spaniards in 1636. 1713 is the place as a result of the War of Succession to the Kingdom of Sardinia, he is part of the newly created province of Acqui.
