History

Until the 1999/2000 season, the SG Braunschweig was active in the first basketball league, then gave the Erstligalizenz to Metabox Braunschweig on.

After a few months, but the title sponsor Metabox withdrew. The Stadtsportbund saved the team, it changed its name from January 2001 to the end of the 2001/02 season under the name City Sports Braunschweig. In the 2002/03 season was played under the name TXU Braunschweig. Since the season 2003/ 04 was the name of BS Energy Braunschweig. At the end of the 2005/06 season the team was on a relegation place. By increasing the BBL to two other places in the club had the opportunity to buy a wildcard in an application process for an additional 100,000 euros. Due to the performance of the season also inflows were from, so that the club could afford this without the support of sponsors (BS Energy, Public Insurance Braunschweig, Volkswagen sports promotion ). BS Energy waived his right of its namesake, but assured as the other two major sponsors the same funding as in the past.

The Brunswick clothing company in New York is the new title sponsor since the 2006/07 season. The new team name was selected in an online poll on the website of the company stood by the three variants to choose from. 78 % of the approximately 4800 participants voted for the name New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig. The disadvantage however, it is by this name that the Foreign Club can mistakenly bring New York City in conjunction.

In the 2009/10 season, the team reached than eight plaziertes team the main round for the first time after seven years the play- off round. In the quarter-final series to hit the main round First Oldenburg 3-1. In the semifinals, the Phantoms lost 0:3 against later champions and cup winners Bamberg.

In the season 2010/2011 for the first time succeeded in moving into the Final Four to the BBL Cup after the quarter-finals was able to prevail with 88:76 against the EWE Baskets Oldenburg himself; you defeated in the semifinals Frankfurt before we had to admit defeat in the final of the team Brose Baskets Bamberg with 66:69.

Also 2011/2012 the team was able once again the semi-finals of the Cup and it lost to the Telekom Baskets Bonn. In the regular season, the team was able to reach 7th place and met in the first round of the play -offs on Ratiopharm Ulm. There, the Phantoms were subject in the best- of-five series 0-3 and eliminated so that from the quarter-finals. Already during the season head coach Sebastian Machowski had announced to leave the club after the season. He switches to the EWE Baskets Oldenburg. His successor was the Greek Kostas Flevarakis.

Sporty was the 2012/2013 season disappointing than the past few seasons. The entire season was the team in a relegation battle and it was not until the penultimate matchday of the regular season with an away victory at the Walter Tigers Tübingen secure the league. Sporty bright spot was only the development of Dennis Schroeder, who was honored for his achievements as "best German youth players in 2013 " and " Most Improved Player in 2013 ." Shortly after the end of the season gave the Phantoms announced that Head Coach Flevarakis will no longer be working for the club for the 2013/2014 season.

As the new head coach for the season 2013/2014 the Phantoms presented the Austrian Raoul Korner, who previously worked as Head coach for the Eiffel Towers Den Bosch in the Netherlands. It was also presented to the youth and individual area with Sean McCaw a new coach.

The Fan Club of New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig called BS Supporters and accompanied the team on almost all away games and is an integral part of each game before a home crowd.
