Quebec Remparts

The Remparts de Québec is a North American ice hockey team that plays in the Canadian Junior Football League Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. There were two franchises that have played or play under the name in the QMJHL. The first existed from 1969 to 1985, the current plays since 1997 under the name.

History

The original Remparts

The Remparts de Québec were founded in 1969 and won the same in their first season the Memorial Cup, the most coveted trophy in the Canadian Junior Hockey that is played among the best teams in the various junior leagues. Member of the Memorial Cup team was today a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame Guy Lafleur. In addition, a total of five league titles came in the QMJHL. The Remparts that they were the team with the most U.S. players were known.

After the 1984-85 season, the game was shut down because it had filed for bankruptcy. The team continued to exist under the insolvency administration and in 1988 again on the game mode, but under the name Longueuil Collège Français, as the team was moved to Longueuil. After three years, the team moved to Verdun to play under the name Verdun Collège Français. In 1994, the franchise was dissolved.

The new Remparts

The new franchise of Remparts was founded in 1990 and spent seven years under the name of Beauport Harfangs in a suburb of Quebec City. In 1997 the team moved to Quebec City, where the team changed its name to Remparts de Québec. It is one of the most popular teams in the Canadian Hockey League, which the WHL and the OHL consists of the QMJHL. About 8,000 visitors come to almost every game.

On 28 May 2006, the Remparts won the final of the Memorial Cup against the Moncton Wildcats. The Remparts had since they were not masters of the QMJHL even host the finals series, not really qualified for the final round of the Memorial Cup, where the master of the OHL and WHL were represented. Since the Moncton Wildcats, however, the champion of the QMJHL outdated and simultaneously hosted the Memorial Cup Finals, the Remparts were able to move up as runner-up. In the final, both teams then faced each other and there was the first final with two teams in the QMJHL. Master trainer of the Remparts, Patrick Roy, the NHL goalkeeper legend, multiple Stanley Cup winner and a future member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

For their 349 goals in the regular season (2005/ 06) the team was awarded the Trophée Luc Robitaille.
