Rimouski Océanic

The Océanic de Rimouski ( Rimouski Océanic English ) is a junior ice hockey team from Rimouski in the province of Quebec, the Quebec Major Junior playing in the Hockey League ( QMJHL ).

History

The franchise was established before the start of the season 1969/70 as Sherbrooke Castors, renamed in 1982 in Saint -Jean Castors and 1989 again renamed Saint -Jean Lynx. Since 1995 it is located in Rimouski and plays its home matches at the Colisee de Rimouski.

The team won the championship of the QMJHL, the Coupe du Président, in the season 1999/2000 and was also in the tournament for the Memorial Cup successfully big part of this success had the future NHL stars Vincent Lecavalier and Brad Richards. Currently, the Océanic is one of the more popular teams in the Canadian Hockey League, mainly due to the commitment of Sidney Crosby in the 2003/04 season, which is now one of the superstars of the NHL.

2005 presented the Océanic a new QMJHL record with 28 consecutive games without defeat on. In the playoffs the same year they won 7 games in a row, so that a total of 35 successes were to book. Consequently, the team won the championship of the QMJHL and again took part in the tournament at the Memorial Cup. They reached the finals, but failed clear 4-0 to the London Knights.
