Ruffey-le-Château

Ruffey -le- Château is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ruffey -le- Château is located at an altitude of 228 m above the sea, 2 km east of Marnay and about 18 km west-northwest of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in a slightly elevated position in the wide valley of Ognon, south of the river near the mouth of Ruisseau de Recologne.

The area of ​​7.25 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Ognontals. The northern boundary runs mostly along the Ognon flowing here with a few turns by about two kilometers wide valley to the west. From the river, the municipality's area extends southward over the location to an average of 205 m alluvial plain, which is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also some smaller forest areas shows. Further south, follow the hill of Ruffey, on the 239- m, the highest elevation of Ruffey -le- Château is achieved, and the vast Bois de la Vaivre. To the east, the municipality's area extends into the Talniederung the Ruisseau de Recologne and in the Grove of the Bois d' Avaux.

Neighboring communities of Ruffey -le- Château are Brussey and Chevigney -sur- l'Ognon in the north, Recologne in the east, Franey and Burgille in the south and in the west Marnay.

History

The territory of Ruffey was settled very early. There are wall foundations of a Roman farm. The name goes back to Ruffey Ruffiacum (estate of Ruffius ). In the Middle Ages Ruffey formed the center of a dominion which was under the suzerainty of the Dukes of Burgundy. Together with the Franche -Comté Ruffey came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Ruffey was officially renamed in 1922 in Ruffey -le- Château. Today Ruffey -le- Château is a member of the comprehensive 13 municipalities municipal association Communauté de communes des Rives de l' Ognon.

Attractions

The nave church Saint- antide was built in the early 18th century, while the bell tower dates from 1746. 1836 of the Oratory of Saint- antide was built on the main road. The former medieval castle was remodeled several times over the years and restored, especially in the 15th and 18th centuries.

Population

With 331 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Ruffey -le- Château is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1911 158 people were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s again. Since then, the population has tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Ruffey -le- Château was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
