Saltara

Saltara ( in the local dialect: Saltéra ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 6811 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche region. The municipality is situated approximately 17.5 kilometers south-southwest of Pesaro on Metaurus and is part of the Comunità montana del Metaurus.

History

The first written mention dates back to a bull of Pope John VIII ( Pope 872-882 ). Later Saltara is mentioned again in 1139, even though the situation along the ancient Via Flaminia already suggesting an earlier settlement.

Traffic

The railway station on the former route from Fano to Urbino is not since the closure of the route in 1987. The Strada Statale 73 to Bocca di Trabaria leads from Fano to San Giustino in Umbria.
