Sami Salo

Sami Salo Sakari ( born September 2, 1974 in Turku ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player on the position of the defender standing since July 2012 at the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Sami Salo started his career in the 1994/95 season with the hockey club TPS in the Finnish SM- liiga. After three seasons, he moved to Jokerit, where he played one season. He was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1996 in the ninth round as 239 players from the Ottawa Senators. In the season 1998/99 he joined the NHL for the Ottawa Senators. After four more seasons Salo joined the Vancouver Canucks. During the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season he played for the Swedish club Frölunda HC and then returned back to Vancouver. After ten years with the Vancouver Canucks Salo signed in July 2012 a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Internationally

At the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin Salo played for the Finnish national team and won the silver medal. Four years later at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, he won the bronze medal. Also at the 2014 Olympic Games he won the bronze medal with the Finnish national team.
