Shannon County (South Dakota)

Shannon County is a county located in the state of South Dakota in the United States.

The County is one of two in South Dakota who have no official administrative center ( County Seat). The administration is in Hot Springs, located in neighboring Fall River County. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​5,430 square kilometers; which 7 square kilometers (0.13 percent) of water. It is divided into two unorganized territories: West and East Shannon Shannon. In Shannon County, the headwaters of the Little White River is located ( German: Little White River ).

The county is part of the Pine Ridge Reservation, one of the poorest areas in the Americas. A part of Shannon County is part of the Badlands National Park.
