Société des auteurs, compositeurs et éditeurs de musique

SACEM ( Société des Auteurs, Compositeurs Éditeurs et de Musique ) is a French company to manage the rights belong to their independent artist in the field of music. Similar to the German Gema it is not government, but privately organized ( " société civile "), but has the support of the French Ministry of Culture. It is based in Neuilly -sur -Seine. It has 1450 employees ( 2005).

The SACEM was founded, who wanted to manage their rights in 1850 by three musicians ( including the composer Ernest Bourget, the rights to his einklagte 1847 played in the café Ambassadeur music). In the meantime ( 2005) it represents 110,000 musicians and has annual revenues of 757 million euros (2005 ), of which 608 million flowed to the rightholders.

Since 1 January 2012, can be put under three Creative Commons licenses that allow non- commercial use of their copyright represented individual songs. This pilot project is initially limited to 18 months. SACEM is after the Swedish STIM, the Dutch Buma / STEMRA and the Danish KODA the fourth European collecting society which at least temporarily allows its members the use of Creative Commons licenses.
