Sosnytsia

Sosnyzja (Ukrainian Сосниця, Russian Сосница / Sosniza ) is an urban-type settlement in the Chernihiv Oblast ( Chernigov ) of Ukraine. It is located 80 km east of Chernihiv and is the center of the same name Rajons with 8,100 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005).

Here flows the river coming from the Russian Kursk Oblast in the Sejm to the Dnieper leading Desna. To the municipality include not only the main town and the villages Hanniwka ( Ганнівка ) and Male Ustja ( Мале Устя ).

History

The place is known since 1247. In Sosnyzja Olexandr Dovzhenko was one of the most famous Ukrainian film directors, born.
