Spree-Neiße

The Spree -Neisse, Lower Wokrejs Sprjewja ​​-Nysa, is a district in the southeast of the state of Brandenburg.

Geography

Neighboring districts are in the northern part of the Oder-Spree district, in the east of the Republic of Poland, in the south the Saxon counties Görlitz and Bautzen, in the west of Oberspreewald -Lausitz and the northwest of the district of Dahme -Spreewald. The Spree -Neisse completely encloses the district-free city of Cottbus.

History

The Spree -Neisse was created on 6 December 1993 as part of the district reform in Brandenburg from the former districts of Cottbus, Guben, Forestry and Spremberg. Here, the district Guben was incorporated against his will into this circle (see also Oder-Spree district ).

As part of the municipal reform in 2003, the county against his declared will to cede to the incorporation of the city of Cottbus the communities Gallinchen, United Gaglow and Kiekebusch (previously Office Neuhausen / Spree ). By the will of the state government at the same time should the remaining communities of this office to office free community Neuhausen / Spree together. Due to the form errors of this merger was effective only with effect from 19 September 2004.

Economy

In Brandenburg, the district of Spree -Neisse is one of the industrial conurbations. The economic structure is traditionally characterized by the brown coal and energy industry. But the plastics and chemical industry, food industry, metal processing and paper, construction and building materials are present as viable industries. Significant industrial and commercial areas are located in the cities Spremberg ( Regional growth ), Forst ( Lausitz), Guben and Welzow.

The business location Spremberg is one of 15 regional growth areas in the state of Brandenburg. This selected advanced manufacturing industries are encouraged.

Tourism

The Spree -Neisse has a share in the tourist areas, Spreewald, Lower Lusatia and Lusatian Lakeland. Tourist capital is the spa ( spa place with Kurbetrieb ) Burg (Spreewald). The rivers Spree and Neisse are ideal for canoe tourism. Three active coal-mines also shape the image and are not only impressive for technology enthusiasts. These is the dense network of cycle paths (about 1000 km, mostly paved ) with six certified by the ADFC cycle route ( Oder- Neisse Cycle, Spree Cycle Route, Tour Brandenburg four stars, Lower Lusatian mining tour, Prince Pueckler way and Gurkenradweg three stars ).
