Svratka (Žďár nad Sázavou District)

Svratka ( German Svratka ) is a town with 1531 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It lies at an altitude of 632 m asl in the Saarer mountains at the headwaters of the Svratka.

History

First mentioned was the place in 1350 as part of the rule Richburg ( Rychmburg ). His owners were the Lords of Pardubice and Richburg. Already at that time was referred to as Svratka town. It originated on the left side of the river on Bohemian territory to the border with Moravia.

1425 the Hussites conquered the city and held it until the Battle of Lipan. 1558 was the city over together with the rule of Richburg to Zdenko Berka of Dubé and Lipa. After the Battle of White Mountain, the rule was confiscated as the property of William the Younger of Waldstein. 1627 city rights were denied.

From 1707 to 1823 were the lords of Kinsky Svratka, they were followed by Karl Alexander von Thurn und Taxis.

In the 19th century industrial enterprises settled. They were, inter alia, the paper mill of Ignatz Fischer in Cikanka, the ironworks was founded in 1804 and built in 1864 Zündwarenfabrik Ignatz Jebas. On July 6, 1867 Svratka were awarded city rights again.

The city Svratka consists of the districts Česká Cikánka ( Bohemian Cikan ), Moravian Cikánka ( Moravian Zikanka ), Moravian Svratka ( Moravian Svratka ) and Svratka ( Svratka ).
