Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Saints Peter and Paul

The Eparchy of Saints Peter and Paul in Melbourne (Latin: Eparchia sanctorum Petri et Pauli Melburnensis Ucranorum ) is a location in Australia Eparchy of the Ukrainian Uniate Greek Catholic Church, based in Melbourne.

History

The first immigrants of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church came in 1949 to Australia and settled in Melbourne. With the Fathers Nicolai Kopiakiwsky, Francis Van den Boch and Ivan Prasko who belonged to the Redemptorists came 1950, the first priest of the Byzantine rite to Melbourne.

From 1952 to 1958, the start-ups and expansions of the parishes began in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Newcastle. In 1953 all Ukrainian Catholic priest met for their first synod. After the second Synod 1957 asked the clergy and congregations, with a letter to Cardinal Gilroy of Sydney, to build a church and diocese in Australia. They bought out by the Archdiocese of Sydney Lidcombe ( Sydney ) a lot. On January 26, 1958, the Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of Winnipeg visited ( Canada ) Maxim Hermaniuk all parishes in Australia.

Pope Pius XII. established by the Apostolic Constitution Apostolic Exarchate Singularem huius the Australia on 10 May 1958 and was assigned to the Archdiocese of Melbourne as suffragan. Apostolic Exarch Bishop Ivan Prasko was appointed, he was in charge of 20 to 21 October 1958, the first Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic clergy in Australia Exarchate. With the Apostolic Constitution Christ Jesus the Exarchate was collected on 24 June 1982 by Pope John Paul II for the Eparchy and acquired its current name
