Volyně ( German Wolin ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located 10 km south of Strakonice and describes himself as a "gateway to the Bohemian Forest " ( brána Šumavy ).

Geography

With the city on the Volyňka State Road 4 between Strakonice and the Bavarian border leads Philippsreut. Neighboring towns are Němětice, Přechovice and Hoštice in the north, Milejovice in the northeast, and Neuslužice Litochovice in the east, Nišovice in the south, and Zechovice Doubravice u Volyně in the west and Nihošovice in the northwest.

History

The first mention of Volyně dates from the 1271. Through the Prague cathedral chapter in the place were awarded city rights in 1299. The city fortifications and the parish church originated 1327. During the 15th century led Volyně because of the salt transport and toll revenues! Successful feud with the King Pisek. On the hill Malsička was 1618, the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, a church hall in Renaissance style.

In Wolin was a larger Jewish community. After the replacement of the patrimonial, the city was the seat of a 1850 court district. 1893, the railway from Strakonitz was inaugurated to Winterberg.

To Volyně include the districts Černětice ( Tschernetitz ), RACI ( Ratschi ) Starov ( Starau ) and Zechovice ( Sechowitz ).
