Willie Mitchell (ice hockey)

Willie Mitchell ( born April 23, 1977 in Port McNeill, British Columbia ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since August 2010 with the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

NHL Entry Draft 1996 Mitchell was selected as the 199th in the eighth round of the New Jersey Devils ( drafted ). The 1.91 m wide defender then played during his college time for the team of Clarkson University in the ECAC Hockey, a league game in the operation of the NCAA. In his first season of NCAA Links shooter was behind Erik Cole as the second best rookie of the year. He was finally elected to the " ECAC First All - Star Team" and the "Second All- Star Team" of the entire NCAA in 1999.

His NHL debut Mitchell in the 1999/00 season, in two years the Canadians but most of the time in the American Hockey League farm team of the Council was the Albany River in the New Jersey Devils used. In March 2001, he was finally transferred in exchange for the defender Sean O'Donnell to the Minnesota Wild. There, Mitchell became a regular player. After the lockout in the 2004/05 season the defender was captain of the 2005 game due to the usual team rotation principle in December. After the franchise missed the play-offs, the Canadians moved in exchange for Martin Škoula and Shawn Belle in March 2006 to the Dallas Stars. After the season, he was nonetheless the free agent, so the Vancouver Canucks Mitchell committed in July. There he received a four- year contract that will earn him 14 million dollars. After the season 2007 /08, the Canadian was voted the best defender of the team. In August 2010, Mitchell signed as a free agent a limited two-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

Internationally

With the Canadian national team Willie Mitchell won the gold medal at the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2004. Overall, he played nine games in this tournament.
