1st Chess Olympiad

The 1st Chess Olympiad took place from 18 to 30 July 1927 in London. It was organized by the FIDE and consisted of a men's competition. In addition still various attractions were held to publicize chess.

Background

It was played at Westminster Central Hall. It was attended by 16 teams participate with a total of 70 players who played in a round robin tournament against each other. Time controls were 1.5 hours for the first 30 moves, then 30 minutes for each 10 additional trains.

Hungary won in the cast Maroczy, Nagy, Vajda, E. Steiner and Havasi.

The German team played in the cast Tarrasch, Lousy, and Carl Wagner. As the only team it played in all matches in the same board order.
