9th Chess Olympiad

The 9th Chess Olympiad took place from 20 August to 11 September 1950 in Dubrovnik / Yugoslavia in today's Croatia.

Survey

It was attended by 16 teams that determined the Olympic champion in a round-robin tournament. 84 players took part in the competition, including four grandmasters and 23 international masters. The tournament was played with four teams, with up to two substitutes were allowed. It was played at the Kunsthalle of Dubrovnik. Chief Judge was Hans Kmoch from Austria. The cooling-off period was two and a half hours for 40 moves, then one hour for each 16 moves. The rankings were determined based on the board points (BP) and Team Points (MP).
