2008–09 GET-ligaen season

The 2008/09 season was the 70th staging of the total Norwegian Hockey League and the third under the name GET ligaen. Defending champions were the Storhamar Dragons, but were eliminated already in the semifinals. New champion with a final victory over the Sparta Warriors Vålerenga Ishockey.

Participants and mode

The total number of participants remained ten compared with the previous season unchanged, but there was a change in the composition. After a miserable preseason Trondheim Black Panthers were disbanded. In the playdowns to Stjernen had secured the league. With Lørenskog IK one team got out of the first divisjon that eventually took over the space vacated the Panthers.

It was played in the regular season a half times the return round, giving a total of forty-five games for each team. This was followed by playoffs consisting of quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, which were held respectively in the best-of -seven - mode.

The table reflects not quite resist the sporting circumstances, there was some criminal verifications. Vålerenga Ishockey were deducted for unsportsmanlike conduct three points from the game against the Sparta Warriors on October 5, 2008. During the game a total of 103 penalty minutes were ( including several match penalties ) opposed the club from Oslo. Stjernen and IK Comet suffered because of their desolate economic defeat each points deductions in the amount of 15 respektivge ten points.

After the Storhamar Dragons, the defending champions were eliminated in the semis, met in the final of the Sparta Warriors on Vålerenga Ishockey. The latter had celebrated in the years 2005 to 2007 their last three titles, while the Warriors were last become 1989 champion. Although Sparta had their semifinal series disputed sovereign, they came fast in the final with 0:3 victories behind. With two overtime victories they could delay the defeat, but eventually was defeated in the sixth game with 0:1. The all-important goal came Kenneth Larsen in the second third; Patrick DesRochers played its second shutout of the season playoffs.

In the playdowns IK Comet and Furuset Ishockey competed against the Kongsvinger Knights and Manglerud Star from the first divisjon. While IK Comet was able to secure the league, Furuset lost his place in the first division at Manglerud.
