2011 Table Tennis European Championships

The 30th Table Tennis Championship ( officially: 2011 INTERSPORT European Championships ) was held from October 8 to 16, 2011 in Gdansk ( Poland). Venue was the 11,000 guests, the ERGO Arena.

Survey

In the men prevailed for the fifth time in a row Germany in the team competition. For Timo Boll this was already the fourteenth title at the European Championships. Also notable was that Jörgen Persson and so, 45 years, Sweden has led the team in the final again. In the doubles competition there was for the first time since 2003 a medal for a German duo were able to win the Portuguese Marcos Freitas and the Croatian Andrej Gaćina. In the finals of the individual competition, there was a rematch of last year's European Championship finals and once again the winner was Timo Boll, who thus grabbed his fifteenth title.

In the women's Netherlands were able to prevail in the team competition for the fourth time in a row. In the women's doubles semi-finals were in the same over the last six champions of the double competition. In the German men's team following players were used: Timo Boll, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Ruwen Filus, Patrick Baum and Bastian Steger. The team was undefeated in Group A first. It defeated Croatia (3-0), Slovakia ( 3-0) and Poland ( 3-0). So it came as group winners in the quarterfinals. Here they sat down concerning Greece (3:1). In the semifinals, was named the opponents Portugal ( 3-1 ) and Sweden in the final. By 3-0, the German national team was able to secure the title for the fifth time in a row.

So it came as a group runner-up in the quarter-finals, where they lost but against Hungary (2-3 ) with wins over Spain ( 3-2 ) and Poland ( 3-0) However, you could still secure place 5.
