2012 CECAFA Cup

The 36th edition of the CECAFA Cup, officially Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup in 2012, was held between 24 November and 8 December 2012 in Uganda's capital Kampala in Mandela National Stadium after Kenya had originally been intended as the organizer of the tournament, which the East African Breweries Ltd. as a sponsor, however, refused.

Game Mode

At twelve teams participated in this tournament, including Malawi as a non-member of CECAFA and only invited team and the Southern Sudan, who will participate in his second international match.

The draw for the preliminary round groups took place on November 12, 2012. The twelve participating countries played in three groups of four teams. The group winners and runners as well as the two best third qualified for the quarter-finals. The winners played in the semifinals to reach the finals. The losers of the semifinals played for 3rd place

In the quarter and semi-finals, the third-place match and the final was played in the knockout system. Stand it at the games of the final round after the regular time of 90 minutes in a draw, it was the extension of two periods of 15 minutes and if after the end of the extension still decided a winner, penalty shoot ( converted penalty in parentheses).
