7th Berlin International Film Festival

The International Film Festival Berlin 1957 took place July 2, 1957 by June 21.

Summary

The Berlinale 1957 had the motto Film Festival in a new Berlin and referred as to the current situation in post-war Berlin. The ruins of the war-torn city were already eliminated most part. The new festival cinema Zoo Palast was opened and the new center of Berlin.

A major problem for the festival continued to be the absence of the socialist countries that have already participated in the Cannes Film Festival. Further pressure was created by the film festival in Karlovy Vary in Czechoslovakia, seen at the now American films were. As also categorized as A Festival Festival Berlin it threatened to outstrip and made sure that the A - rank of the Berlinale festival has been questioned.

1957 awarded by the International Federation of Film Critics Debuting at Berlinale the FIPRESCI Award. Another innovation was pushed through against the will of festival director Alfred Bauer from producer association FIAPF: Previously there were two Golden Bear at the festival.
