Acropolis Rally

The rally Greece, mostly Acropolis Rally ( and after the sponsor: BP Ultimate Acropolis Rally of Greece ) is a round of the FIA ​​World Rally Championship, which will be held in the region of Athens since 1951.

History

Was first staged the rally in 1951 and went back to an initiative by Shell, the track was 1923 km long. She led throughout Greece over Tropoli, Larissa, Kavala, Thessaloniki to Athens. In 1952, the Automobile Club ELPA the race and a year later, the race became international. In 1975, the qualifying was held on the airfield Tatoi, since 2008, the end point is there.

Route

The route goes via a winding, rocky mountain roads. The high temperatures in the summer and the harsh underground demand the tires and engines of the vehicles alike. Since 2005, a spectator special stage is run in the Athens Olympic Stadium. Organizers of the rally is the Greek Automobile Club ELPA.
