Administrative divisions of the Republic of Tatarstan

The Republic of Tatarstan in the Volga Federal District of the Russian Federation is divided into 42 Rajons and 2 urban districts. The Rajons are a total of 38 urban and 914 rural municipalities assumed (as of 2010).

In addition to by far the largest cities of the republic, the capital of Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny, which form their own municipal districts, twelve other cities are considered to be cities of republican significance. However, these are subject to the respective Rajons since the last administrative reform ( Almetyevsk, Asnakajewo, Bawly, Bugulma, Buinsk, Jelabuga, Leninogorsk, Nizhnekamsk, Nurlat, Sainsk, Selenodolsk and Tschistopol ).
