Mamadysh

Mamadyshsky (Russian Мамадыш; Tatar Мамадыш / Mamadış ) is a city in the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia) with 14,435 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 170 km east of the Republic capital Kazan on the right bank of the Vyatka near its confluence with the Kama.

Mamadyshsky is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

Mamadyshsky emerged as a Tatar village, named after the first settlers. Since the 17th century, Russians settled, and after the establishment of the Holy Trinity Church (Russian Troitskaya Tserkov ) received the additional name of the village Troizkoje.

1781 the municipal law as an administrative center of a circle ( Ujesds ) was awarded.

Culture and sights

The city has a museum of local history. In Rajon there is another history museum in the village Takanysch. In the village itself Tulbajewo Memorial Museum and Library are for the born there Tatar poets and writers Şäixi Mannur (1905-1980), in the village of Suni Malyje a museum of the Tatar composer Farid Jarullin ( 1914-1943 ).

About the picturesque setting on the Vyatka city Mamadyshsky Leo Tolstoy wrote in 1876 in a letter to the folklorist and writer Pavel Golochwastow: " You will not believe it! Rather than in Naples, Rome, Venice, I would live in Mamadyshsky ... "

Economy

Mamadyshsky is the center of the shoe and textile industries (eg cotton fabrics ).
