Castellanza

Castel Lanza is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 14,225 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Varese, in the Lombardy region. The municipality borders the province of Milan. By Castellanza flows the Olona. Since 1974, the community holds the title Città (City). 1869, the community was formed by the merger of the former municipality of Castel Lanza Castegnata Olona. Castellanza is approximately 28 kilometers northwest of Milan and about 25 km south of Varese.

History

The district Castegnate is of Celtic origin and was present in the period between the 1st century and created the 1st century AD. The first written reference can be dated to the year 1045. Castellanza is first mentioned in documents in 1361. 1991 here was the Università Carlo Cattaneo as a private university with the departments of economics, engineering and law. The number of students in 2009 reached about 3,000.

Traffic

Through the village leads the Autostrada A8. The next junction is located in Legnano. Guided past the Strada Statale 33, and the Strada Statale 527 A station includes the location of the railway line between Novara and Saranno or Seregno. The former railway Ferrovie della Valmorea is now shut down with respect to the section of line to Castellanza.
