Charles F. X. O'Brien

Charles Francis Xavier O'Brien ( born March 7, 1879 in Jersey City, New Jersey, † November 14, 1940 ) was an American politician. Between 1921 and 1925 he represented the State of New Jersey in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles O'Brien attended the common schools and the St. Aloysius Academy and the Saint Peter 's College. He then studied at Fordham University in New York City. After a subsequent study of law at New York Law School and his admission to the bar he began in Jersey City to work in this profession. He also became a judge in a criminal court. Between 1917 and 1921, O'Brien was a security officer ( Director of Public Safety) of the city of Jersey City.

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party, whose Democratic National Convention he attended in 1920 as a delegate. In the congressional elections of that year, O'Brien was in the twelfth election District of New Jersey in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James A. Hamill on March 4, 1921. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1925 two legislative sessions. In 1924 he gave up another candidacy. Between 1926 and 1936, O'Brien worked as Registrar of Records in the management of Hudson County. Then he was up to his death on November 14, 1940 employed in the legal department of the municipality of Jersey City.
