Chelan County, Washington
The Chelan County is a county located in the U.S. state of Washington of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wenatchee.
Geography
The County is Lake Chelan. He is at a depth of 452 m the third deepest lake in the United States and the ninth deepest in the world. The county has an area of 7753 square kilometers; of which 187 square miles (2.41 percent) of water.
History
The county was founded on 13 March 1899. The name of the county goes back to the Indian tribe of Chelan. The name is a derivation of a word from a Salish language, Tsi - Laan, which means deep water. According to the same word also of Lake Chelan and the Chelan River were named.

According to the census of 2000, there were 66 616 people in the county. There were 25,021 households, and 17,364 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.63 % White, 0.26 % African American, 0.99 % Native American, 0.68 % Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander residents from the and 12.19 % from other races groups; 2.14% were descended from two or more races. 19.26% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 25,021 households out of which 34.50 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.40 % were married couples living together, 8.70 % had a female householder with no husband. 30.60 % were non-families. 25.10% of all households and 10.80% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.14.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 28.00 % under the age of 18, 8.30 % from 18 to 24, 27.20% from 25 to 44 years, 22.70% between 45 and 64 years and 13.90% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.10 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.80 males.
The median income for a household was $ 37,316, and the median income for a family was $ 46,293. Males had a median income of $ 35,065, women $ 25,838. The per capita income was $ 19,273. 12.40% of the population and 8.80% of families are below the poverty line. 16.00% of those under age 18 and 7.40% were 65 years or older.
