Cheminot

Cheminot is a commune with 674 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Metz- Campagne and Canton Verny.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the Cheminot seille nine kilometers northeast of Pont-à- Mousson and about 20 kilometers south of Metz. In the west and south, the municipality borders the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle.

To Cheminot include two other districts:

  • Longe -lès - Cheminot, located just to the north ( 1916-18 Langendorf at Kemnat or 1940-44 Langendorf at Kemmen ) and
  • Marly- aux- Boix, a little further north.

History

The town was first mentioned in 783 as villa Camenitum and heard since 1552 to France.

In World War I he was wearing the 1915-18 Germanized name Kemnat. During World War II, all inhabitants were expelled and settled some German families until the liberation in autumn 1944 by the German civil administration on 13 November 1940 during this period was called the village Kemmen.
